Plucifer

Gor a birthday of a friend of mine, I made a pluche match (Dutch = lucifer). This was the birth of Plucifer. At the party we all had fun with it. Simple, but cute and effective.

Garden gnome

This little gnome is another design by Atelier Pippilotta. I made it all in one sit. It was so much fun to watch the little one take shape! You've got to feel nothing but admiration for this guy tending to the turnips in his garden. I can't wait for him to take his place on the seasonal table.

Springtime bell fowers

My daughter was invited to her first "springtime celebration" party. Everyone brought something to share relating to spring. There were cookies, small flower pots and seedlings. I made these little bell flower children from Atelier Pippilotta. They were a hit! I took the "leftovers" (2x) home and I will put them in my easter twig.

Root children

According to a German folk tale, Mother Earth awakens the root babies who sleep in the earth at the dawn of spring.
The little children start their preparations, sewing their new clothes, and painting and polishing the carapaces of the insects that hid with them during winter.
When they're done they each take a flowe and venture out, literally introducing spring to the earth.
There are many root baby patterns out there, but my girl didn't like any of them. She wanted to see the root children in action. So here it is, my first self-made design of the root children, preparing for spring.

Hompeltje and Pompeltje

Hompeltje and Pompeltje is a Dutch children's rhyme, used in preschool to train finger movement and coordination. At my daughter's school, it is customary around Dec 5th, when we celebrate "Sinterklaas", for all of the parents to get together and handcraft a small gift for the children. Last December we made two finger puppets to go with the little poem. Since then, they've been everywhere: in the tree as a Christmas ornament, as inhabitants of her LEGO village, or indeed just as handpuppets. It was a success! Can't wait what we get to make next year.

The stand is made out of bark and two little sticks.

Forest Gnome

This is a D.I.Y. package I got online from www.koekendiefie.nl. When I received it, it was all wrapped up with a little wooden bonus ladybug pin and a beautiful postcard. Service like this makes me happy and reminds me why I should keep on making purchases from small independent companies or freelancers. You're not only buying a product, but you're buying love for their work as well. The original design came from Atelier Lindelicht and is called: "Forest Gnome".

Anyway, this is the result. Of course I didn't agree on the hair, so I decided to give him more than just a small lock, sticking out from under his hat. This pattern doesn't use wire to bend the arms and legs so I had a difficult time shaping them. Although the result may be a bit awkward, the little guy looked quite seemed quite happy, positioned next to a pumpkin on my fall-themed seasonal table.

Star Princess

Leander is a cute environmental-friendly children's toy shop with an anthroposofic jist. They had a sale on their D.I.Y. felt doll packages, so I couldn't let this one go. It's a design by Atelier Pippilotta and it's called "Star Princess".

Originally it's a winter type figure, but since the package came with fairytale-felt with an emphasis on lightblue and green, I decided it would go nicely on my spring table.

I also changed the hair. Although I do like braids, the head I gave her was a bit too large for the braids in the instructions to come out nicely. Since I got some wool left I decided on long hair with a braid in the back. I like the little hat looking like a little baret as well.
